When you visit a webpage, most of the images, videos and other page elements come from the address you type into your browser. But other parts of the site like ads load from other websites. We call these things Trackers.
Thanks to Ghostery users who opt into GhostRank, we can build reports that show how frequently these trackers appear around the Web.
Under the Periodic Table and List View tabs, you'll find the top 100 Trackers, ranked by how many more times an element appears on the Web over the element in the table's last place. The ↑, ↓ and = symbols show change in rank from the previous measurement.
Trackers come in several types:
Advertiser (AD): a tracker that delivers advertisements
Analytics (AN): a tracker that provides research/analytics for website publishers
Beacon (B): a tracker that exists only to track user behavior
Widget (W): a tracker that provides some kind of page function (comment forms, "Like" buttons, ...)
Privacy (P): a tracker that discloses data practices involved in delivering an ad
